No Excuses Generation

It has been said that our generations are some of the softest, laziest generations to ever have existed. And while it's not true for everyone, the generalization of it is truer that we would like to think. Part of that is to blame of the ease of modern convenience. But most of it can be blamed on our own mental state. We think nothing of sitting for hours in front of a screen, but worry that someone who spends hours at a gym is unhealthy. We don't question when someone is allowing themselves to divulge in unhealthy habits of entertainment and pleasure, but when they turn towards a disciplined schedule, diet, or budget, we question what is going on. We think it's normal to be obsessed with actors and sports players, watching hours of their lives. But we call someone a fanatic if they spend hours in the Bible.
Life isn't necessarily easy for us. But compared to our ancestors who had to spend their days foraging or planting and harvesting for food, or months building homes by the sweat of their brow so they wouldn't freeze in winter, our lives look pretty simple. When we have hours of our lives to choose what we do, it makes sense that generations before us would say we are soft. And that simplicity of life has made many of us weak. If we look around, we see the affects of this ease. Obesity, mental disease, family discord, financial ruin, and so many more struggles on the rise because we have too much time on our hands that we are wasting on consumption and pleasure.
You don't have to be weak though. You don't have to live the way everyone else is living. You get to choose. You choose what you do with that free time. You choose what kind of life you want to live. Entertainment will not make you smarter. The couch will not make you stronger. Following celebrities will not make you wiser. Striving for having the most will not make you a better steward. Following your heart will not save you. You are in charge of you. Quit the excuses. Quit getting offended when someone points out a flaw, own it and make a change.
